After their previous victories, Canadian soldiers began to push further east where they would be tasked to dislodge the enemy from the town of Regalbuto. The town situated near the base of multiple hills was defended by members of the Hermann Goering Division which had infantry, tanks and artillery at their disposal.

British troops opened the attack on the 30th of July taking heavy casualties in the process but still managed to push forward. On the 31st The Royal Canadian Regiment was ordered to take Tower Hill which was the main defensive position of the enemy and where they were deeply entrenched. The RCR’s attack was halted shortly after it had begun and they were forced to withdraw on the first of August.

The same day The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment began their attack to capture the hills surrounding Regalbuto. A Company and B Company secured Mount Tiglio to the south of the town and on the 2nd of August D Company moved down and across the valley to draw the fire of the enemy. When the Germans opened fire on D company, they made their positions visible for allied mortar and artillery to hit them. B and C companies were then able to get across the valley and secure the heights above Tower Hill. The area was cleared of the enemy after a short battle and Regalbuto was simultaneously taken by British troops with the 48th Highlanders of Canada arriving in the town just after them.
